This book comes from the incredible Okajima pedigree collection. If you are unfamiliar with the story behind this collection, I would highly recommend doing a search online and reading about it. The Okajima collection spanned from 1943 to the mid-1950’s, but what makes the collection unique is the fact that the original owner was a young Japanese-American female whose family was sent to an internment camp during World War II. She continued to collect comics while in the internment camp, and (she or someone else) signed/dated the covers and added a "code" (number & letter) at the top of the front cover. These "internment camp coded" books from late 1943 to 1945 are historically significant and easily have one of the most interesting backstories of any pedigree collection.
*Please note that I have several Okajima’s listed this week (and will have a few others listed over the coming weeks). Last summer, I stumbled across a seller out of California who had an Okajima copy of a Golden Age Superman comic listed for sale; I inquired about that book and was told that they had about twenty-five other Golden Age comics, which I ended up buying from them over the course of several months. I was hoping that they could possibly provide some extra backstory on the collection, as so much is still unknown about the original owner, but all they knew was that these books had been in their family’s possession for decades. I suspect that these may have come from the mysterious "third buyer" from the 1995 estate sale, where this collection was originally discovered, or they could have come from even before that. Nonetheless, these are all "newly discovered" Okajima copies, which have never been on the market before; in my opinion, that only makes an already interesting collection, even more interesting!
